PaceSetter Award Acceptance - 2016 Literacy Summit - August 23, 2016

Thank you. I’m honored to be able to accept the Pacesetter Award on behalf of the state of Arizona. This is incredible validation of our collaborative efforts to drive student success and make Arizona a premier place to get an education. If there’s one thing Arizona does better than anyone, it’s innovation. Supporting and promoting innovation has allowed us to create new opportunities and solve age-old problems – and now, we’re leading the nation in taking innovative approaches to improve early literacy for our children.

I’d like to thank Terri and the entire Read On Arizona for its leadership, as we know that a collaborative approach is key. When it comes to an issue as crucial and consequential as literacy, it’s going to take more than one organization or individual to address it. We ALL have a stake in ensuring our children are learning the essential communication and social skills to be successful and productive members of society. I want to thank ALL of you – and the hundreds of partners throughout Arizona – working together and with families across the state in this mission. I’m excited by the energy in this room – and I know you’ll have a very productive summit.

Keep up the great work. Thank you.
