MEDIA ADVISORY: Governor Doug Ducey To Kick Off Read Across America Day

February 25, 2016

PHOENIX – Governor Doug Ducey will visit Encanto Elementary School in Phoenix to launch Read Across America Day on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 9 a.m. After his visit to Encanto Elementary, the Governor will join the Arizona Cardinals at the Salvation Army Kroc Center for Read Across America Day.

"Reading is an essential life skill," said Governor Ducey. "We know early literacy is a strong predictor of future success, both academically and professionally, and I'm pleased that I get to spend my morning reading with some great Arizona students as we celebrate Read Across America Day."

At Encanto Elementary, Governor Ducey will participate in a school wide assembly, where he will present several student awards, read excerpts from "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" by Dr. Seuss, and present book donations generously made by Scholastic Book Company.

At 10 a.m., Governor Ducey will arrive at the KROC Center to participate in Read Across America Day with the Arizona Cardinals. As part of the celebration, Governor Ducey will join Arizona Cardinals players Justin Bethel and Drew Stanton in reading to over 250 students.

Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of children's author Dr. Seuss.

"It's always fantastic when organizations like the Arizona Cardinals support Arizona students on such a large scale," said Governor Ducey. "I'm privileged to partner in their efforts to promote literacy across Arizona and help students statewide."
