Three Arizona Schools to Open DON’T QUIT! Fitness Centers Next Week
PHOENIX — Governor Doug Ducey and Jake Steinfeld, Chairman of the National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Councils, will join students, families and dignitaries for a ribbon cutting ceremony opening Stanfield Elementary’s new DON’T QUIT! Fitness Center on Tuesday.
“I’m thrilled to be at Stanfield Elementary for the opening of such a fantastic facility,” said Governor Ducey. “Through the National Fitness Campaign, Arizona schools are being recognized for their incredible efforts to encourage the importance of physical fitness and wellness. These centers are going to enrich our students, our schools, and our communities for generations to come.”
Stanfield Elementary was one of three Arizona schools selected as a National Fitness Champion earlier this year for demonstrating new and innovative ways to promote physical activity and wellness in students. Hollinger K-8 in Tucson and Hulet Elementary in Holbrook were also selected as winning schools. Each winning school will be opening a $100,000 state-of-the-art fitness center next week for their accomplishments.
“Governor Ducey welcomed us into Arizona to help inspire students to make healthy choices and make physical activity part of their daily routine and it’s paid off,” said Mr. Steinfeld. “Hollinger K-8, Hulet Elementary and Stanfield Elementary are leading the way to get fit and have taken my motto of DON’T QUIT! to heart.”
Each fitness center awarded as a top prize is financed through public/private partnerships with companies like The Coca-Cola Company, The CareMore Foundation and Nike, and does not rely on taxpayer dollars or state funding. Additionally, TuffStuff Fitness International provides all the fitness equipment.
