As Gov. Doug Ducey’s appointed public-school teacher-representative on his Classrooms First Council and the Arizona Educational Foundation’s 2014 Teacher of the Year, I was thrilled with Governor Ducey's State of the State address and his commitment to early childhood literacy and investing in the expansion of high-quality full day kindergarten for Arizona's most needy students.
As a mom, teacher and education advocate, I believe that high-quality, full-day kindergarten should be an option for every family in Arizona. High quality, full-day kindergarten develops early childhood literacy, prepares students to read by third grade and significantly improves high-school graduation rates, giving students the opportunity to have a greater number of early learning experiences that best prepare them for academic and developmental growth.
Governor Ducey’s strategy of first expanding high-quality, full-day kindergarten for Arizona’s most needy students will provide Arizonans with the biggest bang for our education buck. I applaud his commitment and support his thoughtful effort.
I'm proud to stand with Governor Ducey, his strategic investment of Arizona’s scarce education resources and his passion for investing in early childhood literacy and high-quality, full-day kindergarten. His roadmap and investment strategies for today will prepare Arizona's youngest students for successful futures.
