MEDIA ADVISORY: Governor Ducey To Celebrate Read Across America Day

February 27, 2017

PHOENIX – Governor Doug Ducey will celebrate Read Across America Day with Arizona students on Thursday, March 2, 2017.

Governor Ducey and Arizona Diamondbacks mascot D. Baxter the Bobcat will join students at Wilson Elementary School for a tour of the school’s production studio and SMART lab before participating in a school wide assembly. During the assembly, the governor will present several student awards, read excerpts from “My Many Colored Days” by Dr. Seuss and “Albert the Albatross Visits Arizona” by Richard Fisher, and present book donations generously made by the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation.

Immediately after, Governor Ducey will arrive at the Salvation Army Kroc Center to participate in Read Across America Day with the Arizona Cardinals. As part of this celebration, Governor Ducey will join Nicole Bidwell, along with Arizona Cardinals players Drew Stanton, Hakeem Valles, and Corey Peters to read excerpts from “Oh, The Places You’ll Go” by Dr. Seuss to more than 325 students from across the state.

Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of children's author Dr. Seuss.
